Handbook for School Media Clubs

Handbook for School Media Clubs

Participation in a journalism club or working on a school newspaper is invaluable for students, as it helps them enhance their skills in persuasive writing, public speaking, and presentation, while also improving their social and communication abilities. One of the most significant steps in fostering students’ media literacy is engaging them in the process of content creation. Through this experience, they learn about the process of creating media and journalistic content, as well as the professional and ethical standards of journalism. Such experience can help students develop critical thinking skills and distinguish between fact-based professional journalism, misinformation, and propaganda.

To support journalism clubs in schools, the Macedonian Institute for Media (MIM), the Youth Educational Forum (YEF), and IREX have published a Handbook for School Media Clubs, designed for students and teachers in primary and secondary schools. Since November 2023, media clubs have been active in 30 primary and 10 secondary schools across the country, where students create diverse media content, which they publish in school media outlets and on social platforms.

This activity is part of USAID’s Media Literacy Project “Youth Think,” implemented by IREX, MIM, and YEF.
